Rainy day

"Spirituality is anything but a straight line; it is a mixed-up, topsy-turvy, helter-skelter godliness that turns our lives into an upside-down toboggan ride full of unexpected turns, surprise bumps, and bone-shattering crashes. In other words, messy spirituality is the delirious consequence of a life ruined by a Jesus who will love us right into his arms." From Messy Spirituality: God's Annoying Love for Imperfect People by Mike Yaconelli (p. 17)
So it's raining here. And, the clouds and damp air outside almost make me believe that I'm in Oregon rather than Minnesota. But then the lack of mountains easily provide me my bearings.
It rained yesterday, too. And, I saw a little girl proudly wearing her pink, Dora the Explorer raincoat and carrying its matching umbrella. She was so pleased by the getup that she was so reluctant to put the umbrella down and take off the coat when she came inside.

A month gone by

There are times when all you can do is just float. Things around you seem to swirl. Perhaps you're overstimulated to begin with so you're juggling too many plates or balls or whatever metaphor you use to describe the events and circumstances in your life. And, then you feel like everything is moving in slow motion. The words you say seem to be in a foreign language to the people around you because although you may think that you are making sense, they have no clue or point of reference as to what you're saying. And, the things you do, the simple tasks that usually take you just seconds to do seem to drag on.
But, then you laugh at yourself and realize that the loopy, slightly groggy state you're in can be remedied by a few hours of sleep, a night of food and laughter with friends, and a hope that tomorrow will be much better.
