In some ways, I like having a blog because I can sort of publish my thoughts. But, in others, I always feel guilty for not updating my blog more often. But, I have an excuse this time - actually three. They are the title of this post.
But, before I get to that, I must explain something about my public library. I recently moved to a smaller town, and I have discovered that even though it doesn't have an Indian restaurant (that I know of), the public library system is more speedy in terms of getting items (specifically DVDS) that I request. At my previous public library, I had to wait weeks - sometimes months - to get the stuff that I wanted. But, at my new library, the wait time has decreased, but my amount of requests have not.
And, if you want to talk about guilt, try going to the public library and having 14 DVDs waiting for you to pick up. The helpful circulation worker asks you if you're going to have time to watch all of them in a week. I can tell she's thinking about all the taxpayer money at work to transport the items to a specific branch so I don't have to make more than one trip to the library. So I smile and say, "Yes" even though I've returned a few without using them. But, most of them are things I want to see, read, or listen which has gotten me into trouble time-wise because some the DVDs are full seasons of a TV series.
So spies - The fact that both Matthew Macfadyen (Mr Darcy from the Keira Knightly version of
Pride and Prejudice) and Rupert Penry-Jones (Captain Wentworth from the recent BBC version of
Persuasion) were in
MI-5 made me curious about the show. Thankfully, British TV shows only have about 10 episodes, and the first 4 seasons haven't let me down in terms of a good, suspense, spy drama. I'll see about season 5, though; I'll pick it up at the library tomorrow. Besides
MI-5, another spy distraction has been
Burn Notice. This is something I've been wanting to see, but I don't have a TV. And, I'm cheap so I didn't want to buy two seasons of it unless I knew I liked it. Compared to
MI-5,
Burn Notice is not as intense, but it's good fun. At least, the first half of season one was - I'm still waiting to get the last two DVDs of season one from the library.
Vampires are perhaps what started my non-blog-writing spell. Like I said, I don't have a TV, but I do keep up on what's out there - to an extent. Anyway, I heard about Joss Whedon's show,
Dollhouse, and they were talking about how he also created
Buffy the Vampire Slayer for television. And, my librarian curiosity caused my to look the show (
Buffy) up on the Internet Movie Database. Much to my surprise, I found out that Seth Green was on the show so my curiosity to see him and the fact that Target had the first two seasons of
Buffy on sale for 20 bucks caused me to go down that rabbit hole. The rest of the seasons (1-6) I've gotten through the library, but I am waiting to receive season 7.
Tangent - this has nothing to do with spies, vampires, or zombies, but a benefit of being hooked on
Buffy was that I was somewhat impressed with the musical episode, "Once more with feeling," that I had no qualms seeing
Dr. Horrible's Sing Along Blog. Although it's somewhat over the top and rather quirky, its quite entertaining. At least I and a few of my friends think so.
Back to the vamps - I also have been reading books from the
Twilight Saga. Since they are ultra popular at the moment, I have a month or two in between reading them. But, it would be more if I hadn't requested the large print versions of them. Right now, I'm about half-way through
Eclipse. So for those who are wondering (I'm not sure who because I don't think many people read this blog), I am Team Jacob. Edward is all fine and dandy, and I know he's the true love of Bella's life. But, she's less moody and more happy when she's around Jacob. At least - when Jacob is acting more like himself (the one before the wolf transformation).
So that leaves zombies. For that, I'm going to try to enclose a picture. Looks like its going to be at the top of the post rather than right here. Oh, well. I actually read this book. From first glance, it appears to be sacrilegious. Teaming Jane Austen's timeless words with zombies? But, the author does respect's Austen's ideas and the way he adds the zombies into the story is rather clever. I've learned from experience that describing how makes it sound worse than it really is so if you're curious and not entirely an Austen purist, I'd say check it out. The same goes for the recent TV series,
Lost in Austen, that has a modern London girl getting transported into the story of
Pride and Prejudice. That adaptation is zombie free, but it does require some flexibility in allowing the events of the story to take a different course.
So besides working and riding my bike when the weather cooperates, that's why I haven't been blogging. I am making no promises, but I will try to write more when I'm inspired again to do so. Austen, vampires, and zombies aside.
